Why the surprise about marketing techniques being used by Auto driver. They are very smart lot and most of them have an innate sense of marketing. It is the younger lot which has lost it.

Regarding sharing breakfast table with a stranger and not talking – my dad’s generation were really adept at making conversations. Our generation and subsequent ones have always cribbed about why strangers need to talk to us and get to know our history. But isn’t that what you would have done if you had started conversation at the breakfast table? As I grow older, am really appreciating the way older generation would connect with people around them and mostly it was without any selfish needs or end-goals in mind.

It is unfortunate that nowadays parcel is judged by packaging rather than content.

I guess that surprise stems from the fact that I have only seen nonchalant and annoyed auto drivers in Bangalore/Chennai/Tamil Nadu :)

About your point on elders, I think that is very, very valid. My dad picks up random conversations with strangers very easily and smoothly!

Getting savvy with (lost in) the virtual world is making us lose touch with the real world…that is why we can’t make connections as well as the previous generation…this is a major issue in America today – kids can’t make friends easily – they are fine chatting with the same people online…
