Balleilakka has intentionally-likeable lyrics but is pretty mundane otherwise. Athiradee tests Rahman’s vocals and its unusual tune and orchestration pattern sounds interesting. Vaaji vaaji is very catchy thanks to a predictable rhythm sequence and Blaaze adds his usual mishmash in The Boss. Sahana is no doubt melodious, but a bit staid for a Rajinikant starrer, while Gomathi Sree is fantastic in Sahara! Style with its fragmented structure mixed well in a likeable package is the clincher. Vairamuthu’s lyrics take a safe route, but Rahman stands his ground by giving a soundtrack that doesn’t seem to immediately pander to Rajinikant’s image!

Balleilakka -For a moment i thought this was by vidyasgar. The opening song seem to be very weak ,compared with oruvan oruvan ,inspite of the best efforts of SPB ..
Athiradee – I wish the title song was more like this .Just superb ,my favourite !!!!

[...] A well known blog in cyberworld reviewed the illegal downloads. Someone in the comment section of that blog claimed that the songs are just scraps and the mastering quality will be better in official release. Sivaji album disappoints big time
Except for vaji vaji and Sahana, all the other songs are really very average.

I can’t believe Shankar and A.R. Rahman have come together for this debacle of soundtrack. I mean, you’d think after albums like Boys, Kadhalan, etc., Sivaji would really boast songs of quality. Perhaps Rahman was lethargic while composing this soundtrack? Sahara and Vaaji Vaaji are the only saving grace of this atrocious album. Balleiakka and The Boss have to be the worst tracks Rahman has ever created in his career. The expectations for this album were sky high since the film was announced, but Rahman once again dissapoints severely. And I thought the songs in Baba were horibble. Compared to the two soundtracks released recently, Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule and even Munna, Sivaji is a joke. And this coming from Rahman is pretty hard to digest.

I feel we are being too severe on Rahman. He has to work only according to the dirs/producers dictates and moreover it is Rajni’s film…so more pressure. The focus unfortunately is on Rajni & not Rahman. So the music has to be created according to that demand & am sure Rahman was not left to his own to create his trademark magic melodies. 50% of the blame should go to the dir & producers too….think abt it.

the music is good , experimental in nature .
Quality and Rajni are not synomous with each other . Rajni’s movies are meant for the masses and his hardcore fans for whom a song like Style (oru Kudai Sunlight) would be the best song in the world .
looking at the soundtrack from this background rahman has done a fairly good job . Shankar should have stuck to Vairamuthu alone rather than using vaali and others who have come up substandard lyrics .
for others who dont belive in this Thalaivar concept the album would rank as an average one .
