Mohit Suri, director of Awarapan, when asked about the film’s plot, says, “Its storyline is derived from a Korean film. I am not hiding it. There is a Korean film that I have seen…there’s something in the film that made me feel that I should make this film. I believe that every director needs some source of inspiration from DVD’s or the books.” Very interesting gyan there, Mr Suri! Lets see if he credits South Korean writer/ director Ji-woon Kim and his 2005 film, Dalkomhan insaeng (A bittersweet life) for Awarapan, at least in some vague portion of the screen!

PS: Check out the story behind the song blaring out of Awarapan’s promos, ‘To phir aao’ at ItwoFS!

Keywords: Mahesh Bhatt, Emran Hashmi, Shriya Saran, Shreya Saran, Pritam, Roxen, Roz3n

Before someone pounces on me with, “Aw c’mon, at least Mohit acknowledges that the Korean original…” or something similar, let me clear the air.

I’m talking about ‘crediting’ the original, legitimately. Not as a off-hand comment in an interview, that too with no specific names. That doesn’t make Mohit a saint, in my opinion.

Though, on second thoughts, Mohit does become a saint, when you compare him to Tamil director Vishnuvaradan, who lifted oodles of ‘Bangkok Dangerous’ for his Tamil hit, ‘Pattiyal’ and didn’t even let a whisper out, about the source.

Mohit is not a saint. He is an intelligent man. He know that if he does not fess up, there are sites like itwofs which will do so. Viewers are now exposed to world music and cinema due to which the directors cannot hide.

Mohit is playing safe. Zinda’s commercial failure although it was a good movie was due to the leakage of the fact that it was lifted from some Korean movie. Mohit is taking no risks

  • Arun: There's also Bombay and Kolkata as part of the series. Definitely, a commendable effort by Saregama!

  • Satissh: Karthik, I think this guy's albums don't deserve a review from you. There has never been a decent effort from him ever! Cheers! Satissh
