Way to go, Rangan saar! Baradwaj has been recognized for, “intelligent and reader-friendly reviews of popular cinema with a depth of understanding of the form, a discernible passion for medium bulwarked consistently by a knowledge of trends and touchstones of global cinema“. Phew! That sounds uncannily like Rangan’s own words :-)

Very deservedly so….if anyone wants to improve their English..they shud read Rangan’s blog…simply amazing reviews. His knowledge of music is what makes him standout from other reviewers.

what i like about his review is not just english- he has a perspective for each movie genre and judges or reviews based on that . He starts with that perspective and states his honest opinion on the film without getting dragged to emotional tones !

Prakash: I’m sure you meant ‘movies’ and not ‘music’!

MumbaiRamki: Completely agree.

But, I gotto share something at this juncture, even if I get mauled for this point of view.

Most of the times I begin reading a Rangan review, I have to prepare myself! Its almost as if it demands my undivided attention and sometimes, I also wish it makes the point sooner. So, I start reading it…then find myself losing it midway and bookmark it for a late evening/ night read when there’s limited distraction. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with the review - its perhaps more to do with me being an information junkie in a tearing hurry. And an overload of information at my disposal.

Now you know why Milliblog came into existence! :-)

Karthik,
I too share ur view. Many atimes i have lost patience. I think we are trained to read reviews of vikatan/dhina thanthi which give ajudgement in the end - Baradwaj’s review is very different in that .

Normally ,i keep the page open in thr morning . While having lunch at my desk , i read it carefully ,enjoy his reviews …..with a an dictionary software open :)

Phew…a huge relief. There’s at least one more person who shares my view. But, the point is that I always come back to his reviews - in a sense I make time to read them patiently. Thats his success, ultimately.

I definitely enjoy his reviews - even when I don’t agree with them, he’s very thorough in his analysis.

Hi Karthik,
Sorry wud like to clarify here. When I mentioned about Rangan’s music knowledge actually I was referring to his music reviews. I especially enjoy them (I read his movie reviews too) becoz the way he describes the technical nuances of any song (like orchestration, the tune patterns) makes u feel like running to the nearest music shop & buying that CD. A case in point is the Cheeni Kum review in his blog…am sure u must have read it.

Prakash: My mistake. Yes, I’ve seen some music reviews by Baradwaj, but not too many. The recent ones I remember are Cheeni Kum and Sivaji.
