Nanhe Jaisalmer (Hindi - Himesh Reshammiya)

Nanhe yaar is clearly from Himesh’s sound bank of yore - typically from the Tere naam days, I suppose. Almost everything seems stretched and sappy - the prolonged prelude, the whole sound! Ulfat is more like it - the standard, high-pitched, nasal, annoyingly extra-stylish and hollow scream from the man himself while his reworking of the classic Kesariya is bland. Ranjhna is terribly monotonous and Lamha Lamha is the only track worth something, thanks largely to Sunidhi - but Himesh decides that this track deserved his nasality too and spoils a fairly neat tune. Ay Himesh bhai, kuch hatke bajaao na…please!

Keywords: Himesh Reshammiya, Reshamiyya, Bobby Deol, Oooooouuuuuuuu

My worry is that your review on Dasavatharam is at the risk of becoming a ‘Microblog’ !!!!!!

God save this good movie - Atleast they could have gone with SEL/ Vishal Baradwaj

MumbaiRamki: Don’t worry. I promise to be completely unbiased.

As I may have mentioned at various points of time, I kinda like Himesh for two things - his guts (obvious and apparent) and his constant shift in musical gears…he had a specific sound - the earthy rhythmic variety in his initial days (Bandhan?) and then it was the angrezi-mixed catchy pop track variety (lot of ‘em)…then it moved to the soulful, folk’ish variety (Tere naam types) and finally, to the ear-piercing nasal stuff. In between, his sufi-mix types are perhaps the best (Ahista ahista)

I’m sure this current phase is lasting longer than ever since he’s singing them himself - being narcissistic isn’t a crime, after all!

Kamal/KSR may have a better brief for Dasa since its a friggin magnum opus and they can’t afford to ruin one of the initial baits - the soundtrack.

If the album has only 5 songs, I think this is good enough. I haven’t seen the whole track but I have watched the videos of Ulfat And Nanhe Yaar. And you say that Lamha Lamha is worth something. So I feel I will like the track.

I don’t think Himesh will disappoint in his Tamil venture as he will not be able to sing there. So his usual formula to make a hit song will not work. He will work out something new. And if it works down South, I think he’ll change his style in Hindi also.

Even I feel that Ahista Ahista, along with Tere Naam, was his best work

Karthik, you missed one another important point. Himesh has largely kept himself from filching from international tunes in spite of being so prolific in his output.

Talking about HR, the MD-cum-singer :- Very apt review, agree whole-heartedly with the last line. While the soundtrack has a Rajasthani touch, the tunes aren’t different from most of HR’s other songs. Ulfat and Lamha could have been way better had someone else other than HR sung them.

Talking about HR, the man :- One has to acknowladge the fact that he made it big inspite of having never worked with The Chopras, The Bhatts, The Johars, and The Rajshris. My respect for him increased after watching his appearance in Koffee with Karan. And as pman said, you can enjoy his song without worrying that it might be lifted from somewhere.

As Abhishek said, let’s wait for Dasa, even if it doesn’t turn out to be extra-ordinary it’ll be better than most of his hindi works. I don’t understand Tamil yet I enjoyed Bommalattam, though as Karthik said there isn’t any number that is extraordinary.

I am wondering, is it “Ooooooooooooooooooo” or “Oooooouuuuuuuu”? In Ranjhna, it seems like the former whereas the latter appears in Ulfat.

BTW, has anyone noticed, before HR started using Oooooooo’s/Ooooouuuuu’s(whatever) he used to have “la-la-la-la” in most of his songs. Like in Tere Naam, it was in the title track, Odhni, Kyun Kisi Ko. He used it in Odh Li Chunariya as well, which was his first movie song. In fact, he had it in Kyun Ki as well.
