The Top 10 Hindi film songs of 2007, in order of my preference. If you find a particular popular track missing from this list, do a check on Milliblog’s archives – the soundtrack may have released in 2006 even as the film released in 2007. Best example…Guru! I tend to go by my review date, specifically. As usual, this list is no attempt to please anybody – just my 2 cents on some of the better music that came out from Hindi film industry. Feel free to argue and agree in the comments section. I’m willing to make a change in this list if any new soundtrack released before the end of this year has a song interesting enough…yes, I’m referring to the much-awaited music of Jodha Akbar. Lets see!

Karthik, how about Blue Umbrella as an OST or any song from it?

BU had a great OST for a super film – but no particular struck me as special.

None of V-S scores are included. I think there is a slight bias against them which is okay since it is a personal opinion. Kholo Kholo from Taare Zaamen Par is an excellent top 15 alternative. As far as albums go, JBJ was a complete entertainer.
Pritam is by far the composer of the year. As far as originality goes,SEL take the honors.

Glad that you brought VS into the scene – they were perhaps the most prolific composers of 2007, after Pritam. But beyond the interesting stuff they churned out in 2007, I’d rather give them another year to see how they fare! Na pucho from Cash and Subah subah from I see you were indeed in my shortlist!

no Saathiya from Darling ? im pretty much addicted to showbiz songs although they are inspired from other songs… Go – Kaash excellent song which i believe is one of the underrated songs this year… Saawariya – Jab Se Tere Naina (top song)… Dhokha had very good tunes (anjaana prolly the best).. o well all the songs you got up there are all top class although some are inspired from others… no awarapan songs ? :/ i mean awarapan was a great prolly best OST of the year… Red – Afreen pretty popular song of the year.. etc..

Good list!
‘Waqt Par Bolna’ is another awesome non-film album this year.

Yes it indeed was. Just that, for a newcomer/ debutant, Raman deserved that 3rd position in my list.

Hi, your liking for Mithoon continues!!
Woh Ajnabee was good but to me it does nt deserve to be in top 3. The one from Agar at 7 is a shocker. He came out with a new sound but has not gone beyond that. Saawariya had at least 2 or 3 real good ones which sounded very fresh..

Good selections. Definitely agree with your top album selections and this year definitely belonged to Pritam with albums like Bhool Bulayain, Metro, Jab We Met, Hat Trick, etc.
And other than Ajab Si, no noticeable exceptions.

Rishi – you think just ‘Ajab si’ is missing? The whole list is a bit Ajab ji for me..
None of the 4 exquisite sawariya songs made it? ‘Chakna’ made it, however! Don’t mean to be nitpicking but where is the representation of Honeymoon travels? Just Married? Eklavya? Mera pehla pehla pyar? Dhokha? Even awarapan ahead of namaste london and bhool bhulaiya surely? Even hey babyy was nice.
Metro with all its influences is the top album? My vote Jab we met followed by cheeni kum
Non-film pop? What about Doorie? and probably the best this year along with Jhoomo re — Junoon by abhijeet!!

As for Metro and its influences, if influences does matter to me, then I wont be able to enjoy/ add songs to this list. ItwoFS is a entirely different mindset from Milliblog!
Saawariya was more forced pomp than exquisite, IMO. Halka halka from Honeymoon Travels was in my shortlist, not in the 15 tho. Just married, Ekalavya, Dhokha and Awarapan – all were pretty good, but again, I cant represent every single ‘nice’ track in a list of 10 right? Need to make a choice at some point.
Didn’t like Heyy Babyy and Doorie, which explains their absence here.
Th easiest thing to do is a Rediff like Top songs of 2007, in no particular order. But no, I have an opinion, in order of my preference…and I really appreciate the discussion going on here on what else should’ve made the cut. Helps us all revisit some ‘missed’ tracks of 2007.

‘Jagte Raho’ is another song that would definitely make into my top-10.
Yeh Pyaar Kya Hai, Gumsum Hai Dil Mera, Roya Re are some more which deserve a mention.

Agree with 3,4,5,8,10,13,14,15 but not in same order. Main Jahaan Rahoon And Tere Bina(AKS) would have made it in my list. Junoon would be the best non-film album

I know it’s a matter of personal choice, but I was a bit surpised to see Chak De India miss the list. After all, it did become a kind of anthem for Indian sports.

Nice songs… some I have not yet heard (the end of year stuff) … we agreed on Metro as album of the year
Glad to know i keep good company.
And yeah, I know that my 2 favorite songs were technically 2006-released films but I did not hear them till 2007 so that is how it works for me.

Hey Karthik, been sometime following your blog, really surprised by your #1 pick. Just curious – was this a popular song?
I went back and read your review of “Jab We Met”, and you didn’t seem to like it while wearing your reviewer’s hat.
Hope you keep posting your “Songs I am listening to these days” list – it’s a good way for me to discover good music I may have missed.

You’re right – didn’t think much of ‘Aao milo chale’ earlier, but just about liked it. Started appreciating it gradually – enough to pick it as my fave track for 2007!
And yes, the fact that Aao milo chale’s tune is based on an Indonesian song came as a RUDE shock…but I cannot reverse the fact that I like the song – copied or not!
I do aim to put up that recent best list occasionally – there’s one overdue now!
