Anjaadhey (Tamil - Mysskin)

For all the promise director Mysskin displayed in his debut (Chithiram Pesuthadi), Anjaadhey is terribly disappointing. Using the same realistic, lower middle class setting, he has an Ajmal who simply cannot emote and a Naren who sits down half-way, holding a wall every time he’s even mildly surprised. Prasanna’s menacing turn is commendable for the actor but he comes across merely as a caricature - that extra shot glorifying him when he’s finally dead perhaps panders to his hero-image! But, the worst offenders are the 30 minute chaotic, mess of a climax in the sugarcane field; and Naren’s decision to drop both his guns and get into a hand combat with Prasanna, in the climax – he’s a cop dealing with a rapist for heaven’s sake; and this was meant to be a realistic film! While I did enjoy Mysskin’s film making style – an impoverished version of Gautam Menon, if I could describe it - Anjaadhey is a drab for most parts and definitely lacks the stupendous impact of the film maker’s debut. What went wrong? The bigger budget? Oh that’s terribly unfortunate, ‘cos instead of getting a better film, we have a self-indulgent film, with only occasional strokes of brilliance.

Haven’t seen CP - Agree with your opinion on climax and the Naren-Prasanna fight , but don’t with others. I felt that Myskkin had maintained the consistency in characterisation throughout and fairly managed to get us engrossed ..Some of the scenes were brilliant -Esp the realistic tone of the film when Naren becomes a cop and yet retains his old sensibilities.Ajmal
s characterisation is grey- he is a want- to-be-cop whose feelings had become orthogonal when he learns that Naren had become a cop, but still he is far away from becoming an out-to out villain . May be pasupathy would have done a great job but ajmal wasn’t bad either !

And i tht BGm was amazing , although reminded me of schindler’s list !

I agree with the first comment. But for the last 30 minutes, the movie was pretty good. Screenplay was slick, plot entertaining. The first half of CP was like any normal tamil movie but the second half was engrossing and the climax was where Myskkin set himself apart from other moviemakers. But i thought in this movie right from the start, it was made little different from the regular movies. the bgm was great considering the fact that it is the first movie for the music director.
The negatives i felt was, (said by many others) the movie is really long. Myskkin says he wont cut anything, but i think it could have been cut short by half hour. Also as you said, the last fight was amateurish. Maybe commercial requirements.
Anyway, i enjoyed 100 times more than the crass Pazhani and Kaala, ATM and Vel.

This probably is the best movie to come out this year, awesome performances all around and more than that the ’signs’ like BGM and the camera angles. Except for the part where he drops the guns for a fist fight(very indian moviish) , all the way this movie kept me engrossed.
I especially liked the small things
like when kripa bangs his helmet when he finds out the truth, the end scene of the motta character(very well done),the way sathya reacts on hearing the guy with a head in his bag, pandya raj(didnt expect that).
Finally a movie worth watching this year, this movie makes me wanna watch CP , hope its good too.
