Love Story 2050 (Hindi, Anu Malik)

With its dose of assembly-line techno phrases, Kay Kay’s Aa gaya hun mein and Kunal’s Sach kehna are reasonably good, even as the moth-balled tune doesn’t gel with the mod arrangements. Jaane kaisi hai is trademark Anu Malik and is at least 10 years behind time. Alisha’s Lover boy is plain cheesy while Mausam achanak is a non-descript melody heading nowhere. Meelon ka jaisa tha fasla takes the cheesiness quotient one step further, but thankfully, Shaan infuses some life into the soundtrack with the very catchy, Milo na milo. For a futuristic movie, Love Story 2050’s music is pretty outdated.

Milo na milo is the only one that impresses. Apart from that aa gaya hun mein, sach kehna and jaane kaisi are just ok in that particular order. Loverboy is horrible and meelon ka tha fasla is plain boring.

Overall, this album is yet another dissappointment for Anu fans.

I completely disagree with the review.
I just love the songs here. Overall a great album. A good mix of dance numbers and melodious music.

”Meelon ka jaisa tha fasla takes the cheesiness quotient one step further,” —– Karthik, probably you had a lot of cheese in your morning breakfast before reviewing this album —– :) :) Just having some harmless fun.

But sure I would like to know your defination of cheesiness.

I also completely disagree wid this review……

What the hell r these reviews???…..they never appreciate Anu Malik’s work…….

I wud like to tell few things here:

Firstly-The film does not deal with only future…

Second-It has two parts….and as one of its tag line says-The search of love trough time……

So it was not a simple straightforeward n easy task for Anu Malik n Jaaved Akhtar ……and i think they hv done full justice to the songs……

Anu Malik is surely back wid this one……gr8 music……..[:)]

Being Anu fans, we have to agree on something here…either this means, it his 3rd come back in last 4 weeks or he is not back yet…atleast he wasn’t back with Hastey Hastey…just kdding.

After listening a few more times, I still don’t think this album offers anything (except milo na milo) to put him back in the race.

Lets save ‘Anu Malik surely came back wid this one’…till he really does…looks like we won’t have to save it for long. Mission Istanbul promo clip on air has some impressive music, lets hope the same for entire soundtrack.

Lets hope he really comes back with that one.

Jaydeep, you seem to be more of a Anu critic rather than his fan. Agreed that this is not the best that Anu could have churned up for a futuristic love story but still it does have enough to satisfy any music lover. And yes, as a Anu Malik’s die hard fan, I am waiting for Mission Istanbul. Hopefully it will satisfy you as a Anu Malik’s critic.

The tracks of Love Story 2050 are completely perfect…bcoz the film has to do wid two era’s so nice balance has struck by him n Jaaved ji…..

And as in the original CD cover he has said-”It was a difficult task to compose for the film and every song is encapsulated as a jewel in my heart…..”
And the sounds he has used r simply awesome…

The songs dont get on u easily thats why we feel its nt good…but listening calmly will help…….

For me Anu Malik is definately back..actually he has never gone to be back….he is always there…..

And yes Jo Gumshuda song is out on promos from Mission Istaanbul…very melodious track wid a turkish feel by Ege’s lyrics…….

This sound track has further-a track by Turkish Pop star…as well as a Arabic song picturied on Abhishek Bachchan…..so its definately goin to be n interesting album to look out for…..

Ya, I do sound more like a critic just coz’ a fan in me still belives he is capable of much more than this.

I do feel like kartik, the album sounds a little outdated. I feel it so coz

1) probably it was composed almost before 2-3 years proabably even before Jaan-e-mann(I read that this mv is in making for almost 3 years, so obvioulsy music was first thing to have been done)

2)the bollywood music scene has evolved a hell lot in these last couple years.

So When Compared to recent good soundtracks like Jannat or Jane tu…Or De taali (not mentioning Aamir coz’ no album can come even closer to it) this album doesn’t stand a chance.

So, sorry album doesn’t work for me, Hope Mission Istanbul will.

Surely Anu is capable of giving much more than what he has done in LS-2050…but in no way the album is a downer…

Songs of Jannat or Jane tu are good but De Taali is nothing but popcorn stuff…nobody gone remember these songs after a while…

As a Anu Malik fan, Anu has done a fairly good job in LS-2050 and it should be applauded by one and all.

I Agree, its definitely not a total downer like anamika or hastey hastey were. Milo na milo is just terrific and one does see the flashes of brilliance here & there but I guess its just not enough to make it a rocking album.

Sales of the album will prove how popular or unpopular the album really is. At the end of the day and somtimes unfortunately, this is what counts as it will determine whether Anu will continue to be hired by the bigger banners.

The music has been conceptualised and composed a long time back and it shows in the soundtrack.

Mission istanbul sounds promising so far, but i really hope that Anu has managed to keep da consistency wid da entire album.

Anu has another 8 or 9 albums to release this year. I dont expect much from these other than Khambakt Ishq as this brings him back with the makers of Jaan-e-mann. So there is definitely potential there.

once again guys, its pointless arguing the point that Anu is back or not. Sales of the album will prove or disprove either point.

Its a valid point you have there going by the industry norms, but album sales is not the yardstick for me to applaud or dislike the score. More than a couple tracks were really good in Umrao Jaan, I still appreciate Anu’s effort a hell lot, eventhough it was bashed by critics and was a major flop of the year.

Anyways, lets not argue over it. We all fans agree he has done a lot of good music and has potential to do even better work. Lets wish him good luck.

But here’s the real downer for all us Anu fans, I read Mission Istanbul OST was released at IIFA and Anu is not the only composer on Mission Istanbul, Mika, Shamir tandon and a new dude Chitranjan (not sure of first name)Bhatt share the credits. So now instead of hoping Anu proving his mettle, lets hope he doesn’t get overshadowed by other artists on the album.

Yes that’s a real bad news for all Anu Malik fans. Anu Malik has only composed 2 songs in the 6 song album. Though the 2 songs by Anu are very good numbers atleast from my standards but I am pretty sure that they will get overshadowed by the other numbers in the film.

As far as LS2050 is concerned, it is a good collection of songs and the album sales will reflect the same.

Remember…Album sales reflect the popularity of the songs. And only those songs get popular which have the right mix of classy and massy feel to it and LS2050 has that in it. (Though with some rare exceptions)

Javdeep,
i agree with your sentiments about Umrao Jaan. Another album which comes to mind is Yaadein. I loved the soundtrack but critics tore it apart and sales were far from extra ordinary.

first woodstock villa and now mission istanbul wid various composers. This is very disapointing. On a good note i think Anu was definitely not overshadowed in Woodstock Villa. Hopefully the same will apply to MI

so whatever happened to Anu not composing for movies where he aint the sole composer (ala Humko Deewana Kargaye)???

Abr,

Totally agree. Yaadein, Filhaal, LOC-kargil etc to name some, were all fine attempts and some of Anu’s best works that went pretty much unnoticed.

Lets hope he comes up with some “overall” good scores soon.

Not to offend Anu fans or try to bring album further down, I have been forgetting to mention one of the my major put offs of LS2050. Some of the music pieces, like the theme music in meelon ka tha faasla and prelude of Jaane kaisi sound pretty much familiar, may be inspired or copied.
I am sure kartik or itwofs contributors will dig them out soon.

Robbie Williams - Millenium? I have not dared to listen to the songs, (hence no comments from me so far which is odd :p) but in promo they have used that music.

And Evanescence’s Bring me to Life.

Being a Anu fan, I atleast have come to terms :) with his habit of taking bits and pieces from various sources and using it in the songs he compose. Doesn’t make much a difference when the actual tune of the song is not a copy. I do get annoyed when he copies the whole song.

A major put-off not really.. I have been enjoying the songs from the time music has been released and sure will enjoy it all my life and will be a good addition to the Anu collection of hundreds of songs with me.

Soundtracks of Anu that have gone completely unnoticed or haven’t been so successful even though having some great music :
1. Aks
2. Yaadein
3. Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon
4. Filhaal
5. LOC Kargil
6. Saaya
7. Jaan-e-maan
8. Tamanna
9. PremAggan (except for a couple of awful tracks)
10.Josh
11.Asoka
etc….. and

Copying widout givin credit to the original artists is no doubt a crime and probably inexcusable.
The inception of this website and great work carried out by Karthik has shocked and enlightened many fans of indian music.
However, the shocking fact is that we still hav composers blatantly copying and whats more sad is that Pritam who is the King of itwofs (an achievement no one should be proud of) is currently probably the most successful composer.
People dont care that he pilfers his music and passes it as his own.
If he makes it catchy and groovy, we buy it.

I dont agree that the tunes sound familier….the tune is really straight from heart…..cant be a copy……….
Jaane Kaise hai reminds us of all time fav Kumar Sanu songs of 90’s like Imtihaan n all…so its all his own work n afterall Imtihaan was from Baweja’s block………..

The promo music which seems like Evanescence’s Bring me to Life has NOTHING to deal with ne song……no such piece is there in ne of the songs……

If we fans ,start talkin abt such things what will happen ?????

For me the music of Love Story 2050 deserves something more……i hope it gets an award this year…….this will help Anu ji…to really bounce back……..

And talkin of Janne tu….,and De Taali songs…they r simply BAD……..

A R rahamn has gone wrong wid all the songs…the ANTARA”S does not match at all wid the MUKHDA’S…..wat the hell !!!
I listened to the songs n then only i came up on this decision……..Pappu cant dance Sala……can u tell me what’s this ????????
No rythm goin at all………………..

De Taali is 2 day stuff for making as well as for listening…..

Jannat was good wid -Zara Si and Judaai were very good songs…….

SO FRNDS why dont u stop comparing thees songs with superb songs of Love Story 2050……
????

This album will be remebered for ever…atleast by ME……

—- Screen Review —-
Anu Malik scores the peppy Milo na milo (Shaan), the melodious Meelon ka (KK-Alka Yagnik), the frothy Lover boy (Alisha Chinoy) and the sedate Mausam achanak (Shaan-Alka Yagnik) which brings back the almost-forgotten sawaal-jawaab genre, and has lyricist Javed Akhtar in good form.
The remaining three songs may not be of the same calibre, but has two vital qualities generally lacking today - soul and simple melody. Anu and Javed together may not have created the same magic as some of their past formidable work like Duplicate, Main Hoon Na and their films for J.P.Dutta, but nevertheless bring back hummable ditties that are so much in short supply today, leaving us with the intense hope that melody in 2050 will still be alive and kicking.

————————-

Those who like the mindless crappy techno stuff like in Tashan etc.. will never like the melodious stuff dished out like in Love Story 2050

One person’s mindless, crappy techno stuff is another’s brilliant, eclectic techno stuff. As I just added in the Ugly aur pagli review’s comment section, my negative review should/ would not stop anyone from listening to this or enjoying this. I’m talking from my perspective and the comments are from each person’s respective point of view.
