The uptempo friendship song Taxi is Mustafa Version 2.0 while Marudhaani’s velvety tune wrapped in a zingy package showcases lyricist Vaali’s mettle. With I miss you da, Rahman – as usual – collectively preempts his peers by bending genres to create something stunningly path-breaking. The Meenaxi tracks – the folk’ish Chinnamma and Naan eppodhu, with Reena’s pronunciation slips in an otherwise lovely tune – are breezy in their reworked avatar. The Roobaroo’esque Elay goes a few notches ahead in orchestration, and is the highlight of the album. With Sakkarakatti, Rahman pulls off a vibrant, stylish and youthful Jaane tu…, in Tamil!

Fantastic album. The best in Tamil this year.
Amazing how he churns out a Jaane Tu one month, and a Sakkarakatti the next month.
Hats off to ARR..

Terrific Album! Better than JTYJN, IMO!
Marudhani and I Miss You Da rock bigtime. The orchestration in ‘Elay’ is brilliant indeed.

Hey sorry but can i post two links here from where Elay and Taxi are inspired from? Just inspired nothing wrong in it i guess.. I am a Die Hard Rahmaniac so I would like to post my boss’ inspiration..
Taxi’s initial humming and the beats are inspired from Daddy Yankee Rompe Check out this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHan4p58hKs
Elay’s violin bits sound similar to the violin bits in Corrs “Toss the feathers”
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHjS8Oz8Gkg
Very slight similarities…

ck_ssn: Don’t you ever think Rahman is too original. He gets his inspiration from a lot of western albums, but they are just inspirations that’s it. He transforms them in such a way that they look only little similar to the original tune, unlike the bollywood counterparts who blatantly reproduce the original tune.

Hey seriously no offenses. Just put up some inspirations.. Rahman rocks and he is totally original in this damn lifting era. Vidyasagar is the next decent MD with only a few lifts against his name.

OK album by ARR’s lofty standards… Elay is a Corrs song in Tamil…well executed!! Taxi is a throwback to the Roxette-ish 80s… nothing wrong with it…. nothing extraordinary either!Marudhaani is brilliant!! unlike other ARR albums it might not be an album you’d pick up a year down the line to listen.. too many cliched bits in the songs..

I think it is even unfair to call ‘Taxi Taxi…’ as an inspiration from those youtube songs listed here. If you had heard of Reggaeton genre, you wouldn’t be saying this. Most of the Reggaeton songs have similar beats and that is what defines the genre. ‘Taxi Taxi…’ song is based on this Reggaeton genre and I don’t see it as being inspired from one particular song.

good album yes but ..two songs from his own compositions in Hindi and two inspired from others .. If ARR does not have time for Tamil Movies ..its better he sticks to Hindi .. recycling will not help beyond a certain point.

Not sure how right I am but I find a similar pattern of I miss you da Rhythm in Ilayaraja’s – Sundari Neeyum from Micheal Madana Kamarajan. The 3 beat thing is a hi hit snare in Ilayaraja’s song and kind of Perc Pad in Rahman’s. Also the initial piece is kind of harmonics in both the songs. Getting paranoid over Rahman’s music these days

srinivas..
ARR didn’t want to take this movie at all. But the director was so adamant to have ARR that he asked him to reuse his hindi songs for the movie. ARR accepted this and started composing 2 songs , but was so involved in the project he decided to do the rest originally.
This was revealed by ARR in the music release function.

ARR is able to flavour the encore ‘Suger Cube’ with six distinct tracks. There used to be a time when movies had ARR delivered every track with substance.
He’s back with full swing here. He’s turned the clock a decade back with trackes like ‘Taxi’ and courageously experimented ‘I miss you da’ which seems to have mixed reviews, though.
With Harris seems to have elapsed in ‘Satyam’ , Guru stands unique and is able to exude great confidence.
Karthik did justice in the review of his. Great dude!

I don’t know who started this rumor – ‘Good morning Tamil Naade’ is a song from the film, ‘Azhaippidhazh’ with music by Athish Uthirian. Not sure why MusicIndiaOnline lists it under Sakkarakatti!
