Music review: 1920 (Hindi, Adnan Sami)

Posted by: Karthik In: Hindi OST

Adnan’s choice of vocalists for Vaada tumse – Pandit Jasraj and Parveen Sultana – is a mixed bag. The tune is quite catchy, but the unconventional voices are not necessarily suitable. Shubha Mudgal’s Bichua is trademark Adnan material – rhythmic and very likeable. Asha’s seductive Aise jalta is reminiscent of Adnan’s pop ditties, but in a far less interesting way while Kailash Kher gets a slightly more meaty Tujhe main pyaar which could have done better with a conventional vocalist. Adnan’s tunes are, as usual, on target but his choice of singers leaves a lot to be desired in 1920.

I actually liked the selection of singers here. Both the versions of 'Vaada' are damn good - especially the Parveen Sultana one. Terrific singing! In fact it's the singing by these veterans that lifts an otherwise average tune, IMO. Also liked 'Tujhe Main Pyar Karu'...Kailash sinks his teeth into this one!
