Music review: Drona (Telugu – Anoop Rubens)

There’s a particularly detached way Ranjith sings Yem maayam chesave that is terribly addictive – the catchy, mindless and predictable tune works really well that you hum the first line instinctively. Rehan and Pranavi pull off a super-pacy, breathless masala track, Voddantaana, very neatly but the soundtrack nosedives spectacularly from the next track onwards…and how! The Arabic-styled Vaade vaade is way too simplistic and naive; Udit Narayan sleeps through the droning Vennela vaana and the item’ish, coarse Sayyare sayya is just stupid. Occasional composer Anoop Rubens has just one really good track while the rest of the album simply sinks.
