Music review: Sikandar (Hindi – Justin Uday, Shankar Ehsaan Loy & Sandesh Shandilya)

Posted by Karthik

Manzaraat works solely due to Shilpa Rao’s vocals and not so much for Justin Uday’s music. The composing duo also give us the spritely Chaal apni and the deep but largely flat Allah hoo. Their serene version of Gulon mein, with Mohit Chauhan’s vocals is listenable, but pales in comparison to Sandesh Shandilya’s retuning of the same lyrics, with zingy vocals by KK and a charming tune. Shankar Ehsaan Loy’s Dhoop ke sikke utilizes their Rock On sound but with restraint and makes great use of Prasoon’s sparkling word play. Despite multiple composers, Sikandar has a resonant and enjoyable soundtrack.

Like ‘Gulon mein’, both the versions. Disappointed with SEL’s song though!

I guess ‘dhoop ke sikke’ is a song that grows on u the more u listen to it (clichéd, I know!), but it’s really a wonderful track all in all.

As much as I know u hated TPTM, ‘Pyaar ke Liye’ worked ‘cos of it’s lyrics and rendition, and the same work beautifully here, with very deft arrangements from the trio. But what abt Anusha Mani – she adds that spark to this song!

Ajitg: I agree, like it much more now after repeated listenings. It has a catchy ring to it.

Gulon Mein is a traditional ghazal?
