Music review: Ek – The Power of One (Hindi – Pritam & DJ Phukan)

Posted by Karthik

Ek is a rather unusual soundtrack – it has 4 tracks, out of which 3 are composed by Pritam and the 4th is a recreation of a traditional Punjabi folk song, thankfully credited as much in the CD. DJ Phukan’s re-imagining of Sona lagda with Shaswati’s vocals and a lilting tune is pretty neat while Pritam scores big in Tum saath ho, a pleasant melody extraordinarily reminiscent of his own Woh Lamhe Gangster hit, Tu hi meri shab hai. Sambhale is a mess – hurried and flat while Bang bang is annoyingly noisy. Not ek, but do decent gaane in Ek!

Keywords: Bobby Deol, Shriya Saran, Nana Patekar, Athadu, Mahesh Babu, Pritam, DJ Phukan

Hey Karthik, sorry about sending you a message on here. I did not know how to get in touch with you otherwise. Could you please review Sagar Alias Jackie Reloaded. I think it was out on the stands a week ago.
There is this brilliant album that came out a while ago by this chap called Job and the name of the album is Thaalam. Kick ASS and I’m sure you wouldn’t regret listening to it.

Sagar Alias Jackie was terrible…didn’t like Gopisundar’s music at all. Lemme check this Thaalam by Job Kurian.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by Tum Sath Ho.. A pleasant surprise to hear Abhijeet getting his own major track after quite a while (but for Khudaya Khair in which he just did another version of it), he really pulled it off. But Shreya Ghoshal really added a whole new dimension to her singing – she sounds like a legitimate female rock singer to me!

Also enjoyed the music – specifically the intro 0:15 onwards – of Bang Bang but I was let down by the lyrics as is happening too often these days..

ashgarg: Agree…I love Abhijeet’s comeback of sorts with Tum saath ho….despite his loud mouth and controversial utterings, I really like his singing. Shreya…no second opinions…she’s awesome!

liju: Thanks for letting me know about Thaalam. Charan and Job’s music is fabulous and I’m completely hooked to the album. Expect a 200 word review late next week!
