Azhagaana neeyum is no doubt pleasant and lively, but Naresh Iyer and Manjari Phadnis’ vocals elevate this song to a completely different plane. July Maadhathil’s tune is trademark Yuvan, a slow, rhythmic melody he usually reserves for himself, while Uyirin uyire and Nejukkulle are largely trite tunes and uninspiring. Night is still young too is equally banal, despite desperate attempts by Yuvan to prop the weak tune with trendy backgrounds. Neha Bhasin’s Om shanti om however hits the bulls eye – phenomenal rock’ish orchestration and a groovy tune makes this the soundtrack’s highlight. Yuvan seems comparatively less inventive in Mutthirai.

Good. Another average attempt. I’m curious to know how Mallayalam singer Manjari has sung it. I’m sure it should be good.
Three good tracks. Not bad!

Manjari Phadnis is the other heroine in the film, besides Laskhmi Rai! She’s Maharashtrian as far as I know and had acted opposite Imran in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na! Her vocals are fantastic in Azhagaana neeyum – not sue how she managed it!

This album from Yuvan…really is very good. Night Is Still Young is an awesome number….after multiple hearing. All other tracks too have total Yuvan touch.

Too good album. Better than expected.
Thanks for the info on Manjari. Yes, she plays the role in it. Now i can recollect the discussion on this in forumhub some weeks ago. She has sung it really well. the core melody in “Om shanthi” is really good.
Superb album. Great going.

Agree with your review. Om Shanti Om rocks! But the rest are pretty average, punchy backgrounds as expected but the tunes are a letdown.

After few listening, i feel this is definitely is a great album. Not an average.
July Madhathil and Azhagana songs are too good…
Om Shanthi – Great.
Even the nenjukulle which did not impress me at first, sounds good after few listens.
Definitely not an average album.

Yet another mediocre album by Yuvan. None of his albums (Including Sarvam) this year were half as good as Pudhupettai – his benchmark album, IMO.
Om shanti om hits the bulls eye – Dont think so. Its listenable only for its orchestration.

Many of you find this an Avg/Mediocre album
But, i’m very much satisfied with this album. Even Sarvam could not satisfy me this much
(Of course, singer selection spoiled this helluva album. Else Sarvam is definitely a treat).

Yeah, I, either, find this is much better than an mediocre album. Songs are so rocking! “Om Shanthi Om”, “July Madhathi”l and “Night Is Still Young” are in loop.
Dasher, it depends on the film’s theme and the director, what music is composed. Selvaraghavan pays much attention to music/songs, a song like “Neruppu Vayinil” or “Innum Or Iravu” from Katrathu Thamizh for example, can’t get into an album like “Mutthirai”. Look out for Yogi, it should have the songs, you expect!
And Karthik, I think, you love Rock songs, do you?

Arumugam: Actually no – I’m not a big fan of rock! Its just that Yuvan has a fantastic rock base in Om shanti om, coated within the filmy sound.

Arumugam: Fair enough. But I’m amazed at the number of albums dished out by yuvan this year. Furthermore I would rather prefer fewer albums from him with better output. The recall value of most of his recent songs are null.

yuvan dishes out a lot of albums in a year ….but when he comes out with a winner ….its much better than others
Unfortunately movies dont do well and his efforts dont get recognised …… Raam , Katrudhu Tamil are some examples ……In that sense the recall value is less …. not null …

Srinivas: I meant the recall value of songs in his recent albums – since 2008. Raam and Katradhu Tamil were older.
