Music review: Oy (Telugu – Yuvan Shankar Raja)

Posted by: Karthik In: Telugu OST

With simplistic backgrounds, the title song relies on Yuvan’s solid tune, while the by-now-trademark Yuvan tune in Saradaga is equally impactful. Yuvan’s awesome tune-smithing resurfaces in the engagingly mellow Waiting for you and the very pleasant Anukoledenadu – the composer wisely underplays the orchestration to accentuate the vocals. Yuvan lends his vocals to another trademark tune of his, Povaodhe prema – even his gruffy off-key’ness adding a special character. Yuvan’s groovy sound is used to the hilt in Seheri – with orchestration that hits the bullseye and a tune that’s exceptionally addictive. Yuvan, in incredible form, produces massy, enticing music for Oy!

Songs are exceptionally catchy, especially title song. Naanodili is haunting, i am trying to get it out of my mind.

One fantastic, excellent album by Yuvan! This is perhaps his best this year, overshadowing the five Tamil albums that released in the past five months. Surprisingly, he gives his best to Telugu audience. He’s in amazing form and there are still a few of his albums to come. Keep rocking, man!

Btw, is the Toshi, who sang “Seheri” here, the Star Voice of India/ SaReGaMaPa Toshi?

I think it’s Tochi, the Pardesi guy.

Good album but don’t think Yuvan is anywhere near his best here. Liked Povodhe Prema, Waiting For You and Anukuledenadu!

By a far margin the best OST from Yuvan in recent times.It’s interesting that Yuvan never fails in telugu-Happy,Aaduvari Matalaku Ardhale Verule(knockout).Povaodhe Prema is scintillating.Hell never knew Yuvan could sing so well.

Yeah, really likeable songs there. But I am of the opinion that, Yuvan moves towards rock genre in the recent times. Oy! stresses it :)

@Gopi Chand,
the song you mentioned is actually a “reused version” of a Tamil song, composed by Yuvan. The original song is “Idhu Kaadhala” from “Thulluvadho Ilamai”, sung by himself as well. His voice is perfect for such songs (e.g.:”Pogadhe” from “Deepavali”) and for songs like “Innum Oru Iravu” from “Katradhu Thamizh”!

loved all songs, esp povodde prema is close to heart.

This is for karthik: Dude the content was very crisp and actually u could have described more nitty-gritty of the tracks. Whereas Aayirathil Oruvan was quite exaggerated for so so type songs
