Kambakkht Ishq Vs Pammal K Sambandam

Posted by: Karthik In: Piece of my mind!

Forget the fact that Kambakkht Ishq is a dud of a film. What irks me the most is when director Sabbir Khan says, ‘KI was an original idea’. It goes like this, in Times of India, today, “Yes, we are aware that there are influences from Pammal…. KI was scripted after a lot of trial and error. But when the idea of Akshay Kumar playing a stuntman came up, someone told us about the Kamal Haasan film. That’s when we approached the producers of Pammal… and acquired the rights”.

So, a few questions? Just because the hero in both the films is a stuntman, you found it similar to the Tamil film? What about all the other specific situations? What about the 2nd lead pair, who become the reason for the lead pair’s antics against each other? And, what about that pendant/ watch that goes inside the hero’s stomach? And sings? Jesus, Sabbir…do you think India is a country full of brainless twits? To believe you when you say, ‘I scripted it, but then found someone else’s film to contain 90% of what my idea was…so we paid them to buy the script’. Goddamn it! Why is it so hard for Bollywood film maker’s to accept a remake? Is that a sin? An insult? Of course not! It only shows how bold and sincere you are – to showcase the source proudly and display the kind of thoughts you have added to the source. But alas, what Sabbir has done is pathetic to say the least – he’s added a fart, a lot of senseless swearing and loads of money, all quite meaninglessly, into a humongous turkey that trade analysts will be quite happy to talk of, in an excited tone, about the kind of opening it had.

The same line of thought was used previously by Rajkumar Gupta (even the thought of spinning the response for a ‘remake?’ question seems to be lifted…for heaven’s sake!), for his Aamir. BollywoodHungama quoted UTV Spotboy head, Vikas Bahl, with this piece of drivel, “Basically, Aamir is written and directed by Rajkumar Gupta and he wrote the story even before the English film, Cavite was released. We had registered it at the Writers’ Association. But then after some time we realized that the story of Cavite was very similar to Aamir hence we approached the writers and makers of Cavite and bought the adaptation rights as that’s the right thing to do”. Yeah…right!

Rajkumar Gupta wrote the complete film. And then found that all the scenes that came out of his head were used in the Philipino original…Oh the poor man. His thoughts have been stolen…boohoohoo! If this was in a Philip K Dick novel, I’d have at least bought this nonsense. Such lame behaviour digs Bollywood’s credibility deeper than anyone can think of.

not only bollywood, even here in kollywood, directors do that. Gautham Menon never admitted that he was inspired by derailed movie. he said it is a little adaption from the book.
This is from an interview he gave to HINDU

//I’m referred to as a `wannabe Hollywood maker’ by some. Why `wannabe?’ If originality in presentation is the yardstick, I am Hollywood material. I don’t ape English films and I don’t watch pirated DVDs. My stories are from life,” he begins. He names Mani Ratnam as his inspiration, not Martin Scorsese.

Then what’s all this talk about `Pachchai Kili … ‘ being on the lines of the Vincent Cassel-Jennifer Aniston-Clive Owen thriller, `Derailed?’ “The inspiration is from James Siegel’s book [not the film], otherwise it’s entirely mine,” Menon avers.//

in kaakha kaakha, the scene wher a charcter’s head wil be found by surya and his group of frnds is a straight lift from the movie Seven and again menon said he was never aware of it. I think ram gopal varma is better than all these guys put together. He admits that he copied or inspired or lifted and quotes the source also.

Right from the trailers, I knew KI would turn out to be the super dud movie of the year! The story is not worth spending so much money, I saw PK S and liked it in parts, but having Stallone and a few other H’wood stars doesn’t guarantee a hit. And who knows of a Surgeon who’s also a top model? How stupid and idiotic is that!

To make thing worse, Sabir Khan says some H’wood producers are willing to remake it in english. What are they smoking?

There are LOTS of B’wood movies now on the verge of release that are remakes of Tamil/Malayalam movies. I hope they atleast credit the original artists.

PKS was a good movie ……enjoyed it …..Bollywood has to customize the original to suit the tastes of audience in the north ….that is where KI failed …….

Tamil / Telugu / Malayalam all copy from english and other sources ……the point here is that even when one is caught copying he denies it and comes up with innovative stories to defend it ……..only if he had used his creativity in coming up with a original script ?

Gautam Menon did admit that he was inspired from the book …..to be fair to him …….Patchaikaili and Derailed were not frame to frame copies of each other ……story was same but screenplay was different …

Now Udhayananu tharam is a copy comes a surprise to me ……I have always held Srinivasan in high esteem ….this has put me off …

How about Arabikatha ? ….is that also inspired from some movie ….

like the bad guys chasing the heroine, enters the macho man, beats up 10guys at a time, and with a single thrust pushes a car onto 5goons single handedly
and finally the girls say” Thanq soo much,my herooo!!”
like for a moment i fely,”is this balakrishna??”
-
Sabbir,of course, gets credit for one thing being his original,
-Stupid obscenety….that shud’ve been his idea for sure!!!
