Music review: Phir Kabhi (Hindi – Shantanu Moitra)

Posted by: Karthik In: Hindi OST

Jheeni jheeni puts composer Shantanu Moitra in a strange predicament – it is instantly likeable; has excellent choice of singers (Bhupinder and Hamsika Iyer) and an almost dream-like orchestration and a ghazal’ish tune. The predicament is that the rest of the soundtrack pales in comparison. Bhai re seems like a stale leftover from Moitra’s earlier soundtracks, while the monotonous annoyance of the title song is indeed monotonously annoying. Dekho ji dekho escapes the predicament mildly – thanks to the hyper-energetic singing of a rather conventional middle eastern tune. Shantanu Moitra’s form is, barring Jheeni, questionable, in Phir Kabhi. One trick…!

Even listening to Jheeni Jheeni I thought I could launch into the similar styled Piyu Bole without disturbing the flow!
Repetitive?Yes.But still I liked the OST.
    IMO

Shantanu Moitra is one of those composers that whose tunes I recognize at once. For me, Khoya Khoya Chanf is one of his best albums.

But Phir Kabhi is, as you said, monotonous. It's lazy and lacks inspiration. However, i'm glad i heard Bhupinder after so long.

Let's hope Three Idiots does well.
