Music review: Tum Mile (Hindi – Pritam)

Posted by: Karthik In: Hindi OST

The title song ambitiously has 3 versions – a bouncy, up-tempo variant by Neeraj Shridhar, quite aptly; a reprise by Javed Ali and a rock version by Shafqat Amanat Ali. The ambition pays off as the track is extremely amiable and melodious. Dil ibadat is a hardcore Pritam melody, the kind he churns out with alarming regularity, with the same singer, KK – the composer rarely goes wrong in this genre of his and this one too is pitch-perfect. Pritam’s minor, but interesting variations in Dil ibadat’s rock version is commendable too. Javed Ali’s Tu hi haqeeqat is sheer delight – soulful in every aspect, be it lyrics, the vocals or its elegant orchestration. Is jahaan mein seems like standard Mohit Chauhan fare, but the composer whips up more than adequate goodness in it, using all the familiar tricks of his trade, particularly the pleasantly effective use of the singer’s humming. KK’s second track, the mellow O meri jaan, is brilliant ballad material, even if the singer’s voice seems drowned by the arrangement at places. Tum mile’s soundtrack is consistently in character – lovelorn and soft, with a texture the composer has mastered over the years. Pritam is on a roll.

The opening of Tu Hi Haqeeqat also sounds like the opening of the song Lazy Eye from Silversun Pickups: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEgM3aJQBLc

bmsboy: Similarities are there everywhere I guess these days. Tum mile chord progression matches the song you mentioned. In that case even RHCP - By the way http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qUq5xs_nZs matches Tu hi haqeeqat intro :)

But I think we should bash only songs which are totaly rip off than small pieces like this.

Tum mile is really cool, I don't know how Emraan Hashmi gets all the good songs :)

Yup this is indeed a good find. But I will still not call it a blatant lift as Pritam has added a lot before and after those similar bars. He sure seems to have put in lot of hard work to Pritamize it.
  • wootshire
Apparently, it's a cover of a Village People song. But the tune has been modified slightly in the Pet Shop Boys version. However, Pritam hasn't really modified it in anyway in his version. Pretty blatant lift!
  • Hmm..Niraj, quite some similarities there, I say!

The title song tum mile sounds inspired by Go West by Pet Shop Boys. Can some one pls listen to same on you tube and let me know this?

Just realized this, when I read somewhere..this album has no female singers.
And unlike all other Pritam albums it doesn't have s*@#t load of loud remixes.

This is undoubtedly one of the best albums, I've listened to in recent times. Title song tripple treat alone is enough reason to buy this album. I like all three versions for variations, Pritam gives each one of them their own identity. Shafqat's version is soul stirring while Javed's version heart warming and Neeraj's version very peppy (and yes though I m not a big Neeraj fan, I like Neeraj's version too for a change).
Dil Ibadat & O meri jaan are for sure worthy to be included in Pritam-KK classics compilation. Javed Ali's Tu haqeeqat is very unusual composition with a very unique feel to it. Mohit Chauhans track is equally good too.
Overall a Great album. As I read somewhere, this year belongs to Pritam for sure.

Check out this version of O Meri Jaan by Nouman Javaid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owfitDgZz8w - I wonder why they changed to KK. I liked this rendition better.

    @Sunny, Hope?????
Dude, Allegations r already started in ItwoFS Yahoo Groups..

    http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/i2fs/messa...

btw i realy liked all the songs..

In June, on ItwoFS, kartik had posted interview of pritam.. In that Pritam said - "Since the past one year, I’ve been consciously trying to reform and not be influenced. There will be exactly three embarrassing moments ahead for me...."

Anyone got any clue of those 3 songs?????

Tum Mile(Love Reprise), Tum Mile(Rock), Dil Ibadat, Tu Hi Haqeeqat and O Meri Jaan are my picks out of the lot. Hope Pritam has not copied any of these songs from the far East. Anyways the album is a wonderful compilation of soft rock compostions. Take a bow,Mr. Pritam

It is exactly the sort of album i think everyone was looking forward to.
Honestly, this is what one can call music.
And Pritam delivers again, again and again and again!!!

According to me, by far he is the best composer this year.. with the amount of music and hits he's given. This is absolutely a treat.

Still waiting for his other albums to be released in 2 weeks... Ajab Prem Ki..

But i have to say this... i feel this album is right up there with Delhi 6 and Dev D.

lovely album and thankfully KK and Mohit Chauhan are sounding refreshingly different (in "O Meri Jaan" and "Is Jahaan Main" respectively). Was starting to grow tired of Mohit's voice being used in similiar type of songs.. Pritam deserves a big applause for this one...
