Music review: Ishqiya (Hindi – Vishal Bhardwaj)

Posted by: Karthik In: Hindi OST

The mesmerizingly lilting and vaudevillian Dil to bachcha hai is reminiscent of the Raj Kapoor era, but a more pronounced inspiration seems to be Webber’s Cats tune, Memories – the prelude, in particular, is shockingly uncredited, and similar. Ibn-e-batuta’s joyously unrestrained pigeon-call and the interesting duet featuring Sukhwinder and Mika is vintage Vishal-Gulzar material. Out of the two songs by Rekha Bharadwaj, Badi dheere’s subtle cross-over from its Farida Khanum’ish base is more evolved than the more conventional ghazal-like Ab mujhe koi, which, by that very nature is more approachable. Usual musical treat from Vishal barring that niggling Memories quibble.

Keywords: Vishal Bhardwaj, Gulzar, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan

  • Dil to Bachcha Hai remix has much influence from Iron & Wine's House by the Sea. Specially the guitar riffs...
  • It's the two versions of Dil to Bachcha Hai Jee for me. Though I was not able to detect too much similarity with Webber's Cats, interestingly, I was reminded of Malarndhum Malaraadha... from Pasamalar, esp. the slower version, specifically during the instrumentals. Any thoughts?

as usual vishal has come up with some unusual fusion stuff ...i liked dil to bachai hai and Ibn-e-batuta’s . Rest have good music ...but pretty average lyrics

Does anyone think some parts of Dil to bachcha hai ji sounds like 'Memories' from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats?

Oh and, Ibn-E-Batuta is just reprise version of Raat Ke Dhai Baje. The arrangements/structure of the tune is so similar yet different.

i've got Dil To Bacha Hain on the loop; even the remix version - i don't mind all the angrezi gimmickry in the remix.

Great music to start the year with.
Read the films story somewhere...dunno if its true.. but it sounds a lot like THRUDA THIRUDA.

Vishal Bharadwaj is brilliant as usual in this one too. But why just four songs :(

i really do like this album. it is a well blend of western country music and indian country music especially Rekha's song and Rahat's song. Sukhi and Mika's song is solid. And also like Rahat's song. So like all songs apart from the remixes.
