Music review: Sura (Tamil – Manisharma)

Posted by Karthik

Naan nadanthal works only because of its appealing, stylish rhythms even though the lyrics are beyond mundane. Siragadikkum nilavu is archaic Manisharma material, with rudimentary catchiness, while Thamizhan veera thamizhan is loud, pointless and silly. The composer reuses his Telugu Billa chartbuster, Bommayi ,as Thanjavoor jillaakaari; Hemachandra repeats his role and infuses life into the spunky, masala track, yet again! Vangakadal yella is lame kuthu stuff with marginally interesting hooks, while Vetri kodi yethu is a surprisingly tuneful, lively and well-arranged number, barring the predictable hero-worship lyrics by Kabilan! Extremely conventional Vijay soundtrack from composer Manisharma, with occasional, momentary fun!

Keywords: Vijay, Tamannah, Tamanna, Manisharma, Mani Sharma

    I think most of the songs are reused tracks from Sharma’s Telugu albums, Vetri Kodi Yethu was earlier Inthe Inthe from Balu ABCDEFG. I’m trying to recollect other songs, too. Anyhow, songs are way too Vijay-ish, didn’t expect anything else anyway.

    @Arumugam: Here is the list:

    (1) Thanjavoor Jillakkari – Bommali from Billa
    (2) Vetri Kodi Yethu – Inthe Inthe from Balu
    (3) Vanga Kadhal – Nuvvusalu Nacchale from Ahsok
    (4) Thamizhan Veera – Hat Hat Ja from Balu
    (5)Naan Nadhantal – My Name is Billa from Billa

    I have no idea why Mani Sharma is just randomly using his earlier tunes. He definitely has the talent to create much more!

    @Hereisthething:nVijay himself chose the songs….he liked it very much when he heard them in telugu. So there’s no point in talking about “copying from telugu by Mani Sharma”. Anyway, after the songs r done, it is upto the hero and the director to approve it. So only when it is tested ok, it is released! ;-)
