Ayyanar (Music review), Tamil – Thaman S

Posted by Karthik

Kuthu kuthu bravely reinvents the often abused kuthu genre – no, not with that staid, but pulsating, non-stop rhythm – but with a tune that traverses in many interesting ways, supported ably by the 3 singers. Paniye is no doubt impeccably arranged, but it drops its bland opening tune only as it progresses into the second interlude and charanam, into that brilliant, Ilayaraja’esque soundscape! Pachai kili is strangely banal, but, with a Yuvan-styled enthusiasm, Aathadi offers a gorgeous melody with Naveen at its helm! More than functional music by Thaman, who may have been constrained by the film maker’s imagination.

    Hi karthik

did u missed to comment on theme music.

to add up some of the information, kuthu kuthu has been sung by 3 singers and out of which 2 are
aalaap raju – he is a bass guitarist and he has sung couple of songs for harris jayaraj for his forth coming releases.
Bruce Lee – he is a guitarist and being a session artist for Harris jayaraj.

No, the theme was too blah and mishmash to comment.

Thanks for the backgrounds on the singers – I was wondering if this Bruce Lee was Bruce Lee Mani of Thermal and a Quarter…I knew it was impossible, however :-)

I've listened to it like a 100 times and still can't have enough of it…feels like something from the 80's combined with modern electronic pop…fantastic music!
