Music I Like (Music review), Karthik & Sai Madhukar

Posted by Karthik

Karthik’s ‘Music I Like’ recreates classics in a zingy new package along with composer Sai Madhukar. Mahaganapathim sounds lovely in Karthik’s rich vocals, even as the interludes recall notes from Raja’s Panivizhum malarvanam – naattai/chalanaattai combo? The abheri Nagumomu is exquisite too, while Brocheva is the best as far as Karthik’s singing goes. A few other tracks like Krishna ni begane, Annamacharya’s revathi-raaga classic Nanati bratuku, Bharathiyar’s Manadhil urudhi vendum and Ramadas’ Mangalam don’t work as well musically, while Pibare ramarasam works solely because of how Karthik’s involved singing elevates the exquisite Chakravagam tune. Welcome effort in the right direction!
