Aarakshan (Music review), Hindi – Shankar Ehsaan Loy & Prasoon Joshi

Posted by Karthik

Prasoon’s lyrics faintly touch SEL’s Achha lagta hai, from Kuch Naa Kaho, in Achha lagta hai(!), but changes tone into a playful, colloquial, immensely addictive banter. What works significantly in favor of Mauka is the ‘Other Mahadevan’ factor; the ‘chanace’ given to Raman Mahadevan adds wonderfully fresh appeal to this high-energy track. Pt. Channulal Mishra and Shreya rock the semi-classical Kaun si door that (with co-composition credit to Prasoon Joshi), to my untrained ears, seemed like raag Purvi, while Roshanee, despite the largely likeable anthemic appeal, is too familiar to sound new. Short and lively soundtrack from the dependable trio.

The KNK song is Achhi Lagti Ho. :p

I know I’m gonna get flamed for this, but I couldn’t listen to Kaun Si Dor for the second time.

Rest of the songs are decent, got irritated by the trumpet portion in ‘Mauka’, which was otherwise good – wonder why SEL won’t give Raman ‘ik chanace’ often.

Bollywood lyrics are getting cheaper and cheaper day by day. Music is good for ‘Achi Lagti Ho’ but lyrics ruined it for me

Achha lagta hai is fun and addictive, while Kaun Si Door and Saans Albeli are intoxicating. Mauka and Roshanee, on the other hand, are forgetful.

Off topic: Karthik, I’m disappointed that you re-tweeted that moron Raja Sen’s review – ZNMD is hardly that bad by any stretch of imagination. In fact, it’s pretty darn good imo.  You should watch it and see for yourself.
