Force (Music review), Hindi – Harris Jayaraj and Lalit Pandit

Posted by Karthik

Bombay Jayshree and Karthik present Javed Akhtar’s verses beautifully in Chahoon bhi; Harris plays his part with a lovely guitar backdrop. Uyirin Uyire’s third avatar, Khwabon khwabon continues to be a scintillating number – despite borrowing that prominent riff from Rammstein’s Du hast. Main chali reuses Harris’ own Manasa nuvvante (Munna), but spruces it up significantly…and is a clear winner! But Harris’ last, Dil ki hai tamanna is drab and Lalit Pandit’s Dum hai to makes an embarrassing mish-mash of AASMA’s Chandu ke chacha, crooned by ex-VIVA girl Mahua Kamat! As Harris’ long overdue Hindi re-entry, Force seems just adequate.

Keywords: Harris Jeyaraj, Harris Jayaraj, Lalit Pandit, John Abraham, Genelia Dsouza, Force, Kaakka Kaakka

Hmmmmmm! Ufffff!!! Nothing significantly new in this one! bye bye HJ!

  • jeanjohny

Is Chahoon bhi composed bt AR Rahman? I just cant figure out which tune it resembles…

  • jeanjohny

Yeah got it! The tune of Chahoon bhi is the similar as Khamosh Raat from Rahman’s Takshak… Well I feel so..

    • http://twitter.com/shameer1112004 Mohd Shameer

yes man,u hit the bulls eye…chahoon bhi is juz a rehash of Ar.Rahman’s KHAMOSH RAAT

    • http://twitter.com/00Vishnu Vishnu Hari Shankar

So as usual u Rahman fans  started your stupid works against Harris, proving in public that ur stomachs are burning lol :D

      • jeanjohny

@VHS, dude my ears couldn’t ignore the similarity. No offense here.. Btw, don’t you also feel the same?

  • http://twitter.com/nvenkatr Rathnavelu

Songs are good. Wish Harris did Thoondu Varuma for Hindi too. Was also expecting a “Ye Chilipi” adaptation (sung brilliantly by Srinivas in Gharshana.) Anyways, here’s hoping Harris gets more Hindi offers soon. Can’t wait for 7am Arivu!

    • milliblog

Agree. I was really expecting inclusion of ‘Ye chilipi’ for Genelia intro in Hindi – feel bad to see that gem of a song being ignored in Hindi :-(

    • jeanjohny

Yeah! that tune was awesome and has that essential  north Indian flavor too..

  • Navas67

Dil ki hai tamanna beats are exactly copied from hossana (vinnaithandi varuvaya)

I forgive u! considering ur ignorance in music..

    • jeanjohny

Navas, since you pointed it out, yeah I find the similarity…:)

      • jeanjohny

but I never liked Hosanna entirely… It was only good in parts..

        • C Elstein

No the beats are similar to “Ennai Konjam Maathi” Kakha Kakha

  • Dev Jyothichand

Karthik, just tell me, how do you classify  a riff as being “borrowed”? There are many commercial samples these days, and many guitar riffs sound similar. So, how can you call a riff as being “borrowed”(unless a song is built solely on that riff)?
Oh, by the way, the trailer of Rockstar is decent. Just hope it doesn’t turn into a disappointment….

    • milliblog

That assumption is based on the fact that they don’t sound exactly same (it may, when it is used as-is from a commercial sample). It only seems like it has been modeled along Du hast’s riff. A less-than-charitale word for modeled is ‘borrowed’.

      • Dev Jyothichand

Better to be charitable, then! It sounded like as if you were accusing the composer of plagiarism….
And the song “Du hast” has a double meaning: It means either “You asked me” or “You hate me”, depending on the way Hast is pronounced. Just an interesting fact I noticed.

Hey Karthik, i really thought u are a sensible person. How can u say Khwabon Khwabon has a prominent riff from Rammstein’s Du hast? Is it that when two songs have some power chords at their preludes they are said to be similar?

    • C Elstein

Yes he considers himself as some wizard in identifying similarities in songs. lol but how pity he don’t even know such stuffs and call this riff borrowed.

    • http://twitter.com/HARRISARR Subitha

Come on Karthik! are you this desperate to call this riff borrowed!!! You can contact me, i can provide you more songs starting with distortion guitars. lol will be a treat for u…

      • milliblog

Do add them in the comments…the ones that sound similar to this one, according to you.

        • http://twitter.com/HARRISARR Subitha

according to me! No. according to u.

          • milliblog

No. According to you, indeed. I’m of the opinion that this one sounds like Du hast. If you have got other preludes with distortion guitars, as you note, that *may* sound like the song in Force, do share them here for comparison.

          • http://twitter.com/HARRISARR Subitha

I appreciate ur eagerness. I am not here to provide such lists like u people do. “Du hast” ‘according to me’ doesn’t sound like “Khwabon Khwabon”  in any way. Which created a thought in mind that u may call any song with distortion guitar to be similar to Khawbon Khawbon. Do u get me…

          • milliblog

I get you. I believe you are merely assuming I may call any distortion-guitar filled song as being similar to this one. When we have more to compare with, I may be able to isolate some specific points which led me to call Khwabon’s most prominent musical piece as being borrowed from Du hast.

          • http://twitter.com/HARRISARR Subitha

Cool Karthik! I respect ur opinion. Karthik what do u think about the quality in sound engineering the composer has opted in this album. Would like to hear ur views on it.

          • http://twitter.com/jasperroy Jasper-harrisfanatic

Yea Karthik u should have included some 20 words abt the amazing sound engineering in this album, instead of adding some 10 words in your review to say about the riff(which many will disagree).

One who loves good music is hardly gonna regard your folderols. I often wonder how in this hell you people review an album in a single heed. I bet you wouldn’t have listen to any album at least once full, when you do it for the sake of it. Try to illuminate the positive side in any work of creativity than lighting up the odds, in the first place.

          • milliblog

            Will try.

  • C Elstein

    hi

  • http://twitter.com/HARRISARR Subitha

    OK cool. This album rocks.

  • wi09f

Love the songs. There is no falling behind for Harris. What an orchestration!!!!! Quality re-defined. Sick by-blows will always be bitching. What a feel its got. Better if the self proclaimed musical genius’ hitch their faux pas.

Harris is really good in melodies

Amazing orchestrations in Dil ki hai tamanna. Doesn’t it feel like flyin in air while listening to this song

  • karthik jayaraman

I have been a silent listener of your reviews. You seem to be a non-harris fan. Everytime his album s released you dont appreciate it .. and its my personal opinion. I like the songs very much ,

    • milliblog

Err, care to see Engeyum Kaadhal’s review? And the comments?

    • jeanjohny

There is a huge difference between a fan and a music lover.. Fans need to grow up to a music lover…

  • http://twitter.com/nvenkatr Rathnavelu

Gone crazy over Dil Ki Hai Tamanna & Chahoon Bhi! Not able to listen other songs. I’ve gone flying into the skies! Hats off Harris!

‘Wah wah synths’ in Main chali are awesome. For the first time in India some one is using wah wah synths in proper way. I am slowly becoming an admirer of Harris! specially his arrangements.
