Kalakalappu (Music review), Tamil – Vijay Ebenezer

Posted by Karthik

Angelina‘s highlight is clearly Krish’s breezy vocals; the tune is a nice, lilting reggae mix. Amitabh Narayan mauls Tamil in Ivaluga imsai, but the minimal-orchestration, street-smart tune is addictive! The title song is as bland as a nursery rhyme, but Steeve Vatz and Suchitra rock Mokka manusha, an unusual song with absurd lyrics and an endearingly engaging tune! Thirumbi parthu, by Karthik is lovely, almost like a gorgeous Deva 2.0 melody! Devan’s diction leaves a lot to be desired in Unnai patri, but Vijay’s dulcet tune ensures that we gloss over it! Likeable second effort by Vijay Ebenezer, after Kandaen.

Long story – a friend from the industry who usually sends me the tracks shared 5 songs in the name of Kalakalappu. They sounded like bad 90s, Deva songs! I found out later that he was playing a practical joke on me – the songs indeed belonged to a soundtrack called Kalakalappu, but it was an earlier film by the same name, starring Napoleon :) I fell for the prank.
