Ek Tha Tiger (Music review), Hindi – Sohail Sen & Sajid-Wajid

Posted by Karthik

Sajid-Wajid’s lone track Mashallah is every note stereotyped Middle Eastern generic music; stunningly bland. Not to be left behind, Sohail Sen opens his account with the heavily Latino-stereotyped Laapata which just has its breezy sound going for it amidst a painfully stale tune. Banjaara starts out well enough, with the predominant Yuvan Shankar Raja’ish Celtic interlude, but peters down into completely something mundane.  If you ignore the background’ish, mishmash of a theme, the only track standing out is Saiyaara – wonderfully resonant tune, beautifully sung by Mohit Chauhan and Tarannum Malik. Soundtrack-wise this is not a tiger – only a cat.

There is a tune in the middle of the Laapata song which is same like the tune in Antenna from always kabhi kabhi.

The starting music from Banjaara is very similar to Dil Gira Dafatan from Delhi-6

I know ! and the Yuvan-ish interludes that Karthik mentioned reminded me of a couple of Simbu songs ! :P :P

The celtic bit appears in more than one place!

The first use, chronologically, as far as I can tell in TFM is at 1:14 in the song ‘Un Mela Aasadhan’ from Aayirathil Oruvan.

This also appears in the background score bit ‘The War’ from Aaranya Kandam.

I chalk this up to a loop in Apple Logic Pro…

EDIT: Or perhaps not. This discussion from Suresh’s Background Score blog about Aaranya Kandam suggests this track as an inspiration:
