Veyilodu Vilayadu (Music review), Tamil – Karthik Raja

Posted by Karthik

There’s a certain listlessness across Veyilodu Vilayadu’s soundtrack that seems to indicate that this may be pre-Tuneega Tuneega. Netthipottu vachu, for instance, could pass off for any lackluster 90s Raja track, barring that interesting sax intrusion. Elumiccha nirathile is worse – sedate and meandering tune. Lungi lungarre is pompous, item material masquerading as folk, while Kaattukadanga puyalena is stunningly boring and horrendously sung. The only song that works is Dhoorathil unnaikkaanum; this too, because it sounds like an addictive Yuvan song. It is sung by him as well and progresses wonderfully well! Karthik Raja’s come-back has happened in Telugu; not Tamil.

More than listless – I felt in all songs , there are certain sections which give a feeling that the song is ‘long’ and very unconventional beat/orchestration or interlude phrases . I did like all songs except the Lungi Lunare .

I don’t know what you look for in music but IMO this one is way superior than Tuneega Tuneega. I see myself looping this album in days to come.

Doorathil songs is excellent. That’s Karthik Raja special… Tuneega Tuneega was much better from a complete album perspective.. It’s just that, when exhibiting super good talent in limited chances… the right ones get missed.. I know he has a lot in his plate… Just keeping on waiting for every new album done by him.
