Kumki (Music review), Tamil – D.Imman

Yella oorum works at a functional level as a hero intro song. Onnum puriyala is spectacular; moves from serene to the more enthusiastic, percussion-led portion incredibly well; Imman’s vocals is brilliant as is the quality of orchestration. Haricharan’s Ayayayo is no different – one heck of a sweeping melody, again orchestrated brilliantly. Sollitaaley is comparatively tepid, but does have its own charm, while Magizhini Manimaaran’s rustic singing sees the joyous Soi soi through beyond the predictable package. Nee yeppo pulla drones on, but A Lady & The Violin works perfectly as Ayayayo’s alternate version. Imman is firmly consolidating his form!

    Though I liked Ayyayyo (both versions) very much, as an album it disappoints. And, Imman is, kind of, repeating the template. Muthal Idam (remember his album? had very similar music in one of the songs. And the same style was heard in his previous (or the one before that) album…! Hmmm, he needs to come up with something fresh…! Very eagerly waiting for his “Sahaayane” in his upcoming album.!! Lovely song by Shreya Ghoshal!

    I like this album definetly this is the best album,so far, by imaan.

    Btw did any noticed that “ayyayo anandhame” sounds like ilayaraja’s “suttum sudar vizhi” from Siraichalai

    Imman’s melodies in this album are too ilayaraajaesque… Loved the songs though…

    Karthik, Ayyayo beginning resembles IR’s (or shubert’s inspiration) Idayam pogudhe…(pallavi section) and in the middle it resembles the template of satyaraj,kushboo starrer Brahma movie song – Ival oru ilanguruvi’s charanam section…Is it an inspiration or a clever rehash which can be called inspiration….
