Moondru Per Moondru Kaadhal (Music review), Tamil – Yuvan Shankar Raja

Posted by Karthik

Yuvan is in his standard form, in his vocals and the music, in Unakkagave; funky melody with now-likeable off-key singing. Mazhai mazhai is Yuvan of Paiyyaa form – instantly catchy pop powered by Karthik, while Padapadakkudhu’s neat melody+rap combo too works smoothly. Neha Bhasin’s Kaadhal enthan kaadal reserves the best for anupallavi, with captivating morsing and nadaswaram adorning the rhythmic tune! Aaha kaadhal is the soundtrack’s best, sung brilliantly by Nandini Srikar; Raja’esque interludes and a gorgeous tune that sounds like Nattakurinji Bahudari/ Nagaswarali (thanks to Sriram Guruswamy in the comments) layered over the anupallavi of MSV’s Bharathi Kannamma from Ninaithaale Inikkum. Vasanth and Yuvan’s combination continues to rock!

PS: It’s a pity ‘Stop the paattu’, the 6th song in this soundtrack has not been added to the CD in the first round. The wonderfully energetic track, sung by Ramesh Vinayagam ranks alongside Aaha kaadhal as the album’s best, with its addictive hooks and nadaswaram mix.

Unakkagave is the first song in tamil cinema that has dubstep!..And there is one more song “Stop the paattu” which should be released soon

    • Arvind Kumar

      lol

    • http://twitter.com/msrikantt Srikanth Mantravadi

Seriously? I thought Mr. Jayaraj uses dubstep in every album he does these days. :)

  • http://www.madrasgeek.com/ Srivathsan G.K

In the track list it shows 6 songs. but got only 5 songs. Stop the paatu is the song missing.

  • Arvind Kumar

Gud one from Yuvan. This is the kind of songs i expect from yuvan. But he can do better.

    • MuruganThunai

Have you heard aadhi bhagavan songs? Those songs are also too good.

Thanks! That helps… making an edit with a credit to you.

  • moin

wers d song sung by sonu nigam

    • Karunakaran

that’s mazhai mazhai, Karthik has replaced him.

    • MuruganThunai

Sonu Nigam didn’t sung any song in this album

  • Arvind

    Awesome album.. why not 200??

    • Balu Mahendran

Too much for this rehashed album. “mazhai mazhai” the starting piano sounds very familiar unable to find the source. While the loop in the song sounds exactly the same as “En Kaadal Solla” the song has traces of AR’s “Yaar vanthathu yaar vanthathu”. Unakahavae is a rehash of Sarvam song and the song from Kummumapoovum konjupuravum. The much praised Nadaswaram in “kaadhal en kaadhal” remind me of the song ” “sudithar aninthu vantha swargamae” from a suria-Jothika movie for which i believe music is by yuvan.

      • Karunakaran

hahaha…whattey crap! That piano in mazhai mazhai is exactly the pallavi line of the same…hahaha..ayyo ayyo..annd the rest is total rubbish too.

        • Balu Mahendran

Yes the pallavi of that song sounds familiar but its more evident in the starting piano.

      • Karunakaran

and that film is Poovellam kettupaar, the first from Yuvan-Vasanth. but no idea where you see the similarity.

        • Balu Mahendran

The Nadaswaram in that song is very similar to “Unperai sonnalae naan thirumbi paarkiren” lines from “sudithar aninthu”. Never knew its by the same director. In that case i am expecting on the movie and song visuals. I did loved this album but these similarities strikes gradually when i listen to it.

      • MuruganThunai

Do you exactly know what you’ve typed? If your answer is yes then you must be retarded.

        • Balu Mahendran

Tell me which one you don’t agree with. I may try to explain so that u would agree.

  • Shriram Nandakumar

Didn’t you find Aaha kadhal more Vidyasagar-ish?

    • MuruganThunai

Hehehe Aaha Kadhal is like Ilaiyaraja-ish+yuvan-ish+vidhyasagar-ish

  • Arvind Kumar

Strange Mazhai mazhai has some shades of gv’s Vizhigalil oru Vaanavil

    • MuruganThunai

There is no similarities between the two…. Don’t compare yuvan with GV. Yuvan is senior in every way.

    • RAja

Don’t compare yuvan with GV. G V is Shit not a musician

  • Balu Mahendran

“Kaadhal en Kaadhal” the full song processes with a slowed down bass line of AR’s “endendum Punnagai” which was also copied by Harris Jayaraj recently.

    • Karunakaran

If we wrote down the notes, you will notice they are not the same. similar, but not same. just think, the Alapayuthe song gives a peppy, happy-go-lucky, bright mood, this gives a dark, morbid mood. can they be same. That one’s based on minor scale, this one’s based on major scale. Come on, dude…

      • Balu Mahendran

Yes the song is different. Its just with the bass line. But it can also be taken as the whole song is built upon that bass line, as the chord pattern also progresses in accordance with the bass line. We also hear piano playing that same thing.

        • Karunakaran

I meant the bass line too, it’s different from the one in Endrendrum punnagai.

    • MuruganThunai

If you say all the slowed down beats is a copy of endrendum punnagai. Then you must be a kid or a retarded person.

      • Balu Mahendran

I never said all slowed down beats are copy of endrendum punnaigai. I said the song has the same bass line of endendum punnagai. You can also find the same bass line in Harris Jeyaraj’s “Manjal Veil” and “Rettai Kathirae” which is actually taken from AR. But in case of both those songs the bass line changes in different ways when the song proceeds, but in “Kaadhal en Kaadhal” the same bass line seen through out the song which is similar to the one in “endrendum punnagai”.

    • Justin Braun

Here’s the funny thing. The bass line in ‘endendum punnagai’ is taken from ‘Back Street Boys’- ‘Everybody’.

  • Joshiy

Unakkagave yuvans own rehash of his ‘Neethanae’ Sarvam.

    • Karunakaran

explain please. I really want to know this. explain please.

      • Joshiy

Seriously, listen for yourself to find! Their is a waahoooyaee.. something yuvan sings in Neethanae, which is exactly similar to ‘touch by an angel’ in unakahavae. Same tune build over different beats. There are further more similarities through out the song.

        • Karunakaran

no, absolutely not. Neethane is one of my all time fav. songs. I would understand to some extent if you meant Kaatrukulle from the same album, but Neethane? Geez! no, not. one. bit. sorry!

          • http://twitter.com/SSanjeeviK சஞ்சீவிக் குமார் S

Yes, Unakkagave is the clever rehash the awesome Kaatrukkkule (Sarvam). Fantistically modified

        • RAja

Joshiy u r a not a music listener it seems ,, simply u r saying something irrelevant.. come on guy wake up hear the music.. nothing to compare

  • MuruganThunai

Mazhai Mazhai is growing on me. My rating 4.5/5

Ahaa Kadhal is a feel good superb song. 4.5/5

Kadhal Endhan is fantastic because of Neha’s haunting voice. 4/5

Stop the pattu. I am addicted. 4.5/5

    Padapadakuthu Maname. 4/5

Unakagave. Touch by an angel. 4/5

    Overall great songs 4.25/5

    • AllahThunai

      lol

  • Prabhakaran

Starting of Mazhai Mazhai sounds like the lines “Unnidam Paarkiraen.. Naan Paarkiraen..En Thaaimugam Anbae..” in Vizhigalil oru vaanavill

  • Arun

Sad to see yuvan lift songs… the rap bit of Padapadakkudhu Maname is a complete rip off from lonely island-jizz in my pants

    • Karunakaran

the rap parts are usually written by the rappers themselves. and can a rap, that is devoid of a structured tune, be ripped off anyway?

      • Justin Braun

If rappers are to be blamed for similar raps. Then we should also let the musicians to take the blame on similar arrangements and orchestrations.

        • Karunakaran

Well, I defended the rapper. It’s ridiculous to think that rappers would lift from other rappers.

  • http://twitter.com/SSanjeeviK சஞ்சீவிக் குமார் S

Fabulous album by U1 after quite long time. All songs are equally good. It is pity many pick only Aaha Kadhal :)

  • rvs hemanth

WHY DON’T PEOPLE COMPOSE MUSIC THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF ARGUING OVER A BLISSFUL ALBUM…..

    • Karunakaran

absolutely, exactly what I thought. Terribly sad to see people arguing and trying to find faults in such a beautiful album instead of just enjoying the songs. Bass line resembles here, rap lifted from there, rehash of that…get over it people!

  • rvs hemanth

IF U GUYS WANNA MAKE MUSIC, TRY HARD AND SUCCEED IN IT.. IF U WANNA BE CRITICS, GO GET EMPLOYED IN REVIEW WEBSITES.. DO NOT TRY TO CRITICIZE COMPOSERS WHO’VE WORKED HARD AND WITHSTOOD TOUGH COMPETITION..MAY IT BE YUVAN OR HARRIS OR A.R.RAHMAAN OR G.V.PRAKASH KUMAR

  • Pinchi

Wonderful Album. Aha Kadhal right from the beginning to the end reminds me only of Karthik Raja’s style and composition.

  • Ramesh Kumar

Kaadhal enthan kaadal Starting similar to Pesugiren Pesugiren

  • http://twitter.com/mzmrizmy Rizmy Zarook

Felt like at last the Yuvan that I used to know from the days of selvaraghavan! Have to key my words before i drown in Kadal. Aha Kadhal is a gorgeous song from start to end. Has that Illayaraja effect throughout. Only complain is that it starts abruptly but Yuvan & Vasanth know whats better. Once again a brilliant song.

Moved to Mazhai Mazhai hoping for one of his cliched songs… But Surprise Surprise… Yet again Illayaraja effect hits when the female vocal enters. Yuvan has really worked hard for this one to avoid all kind of resemblance a ‘Mazhai’ based song can end up with. Sheer pleasure to the ears back to back.

Kadhal endhan Kadhal sounds good as well, especially that string instrument and the piano notes are wonderful. To top it up the Nadasvaram just adds more honey to this rock induced sweet song. Something in the lines of vallava from vallavan but much better arrangements wise. Three for Three for Yuvan.

Moonru Per Moonru Kadhal & Moonru Atputhamana Padal – Kal.

Hope Yuvan works in less no of projects so the end result is similar.
