Nautanki Saala (Music review), Hindi – Mikey Mccleary, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rochak Kohli, Falak Shabir & Rashid Khan

Posted by Karthik

Mera mann, composed and sung by Falak Shabir is a throwback to the old-world balladry – soft and serene, both original and the reprise. Tulsi Kumar’s version and the Remix are atrocious, however. Ayushmann and Rochak Kohli repeat their Pani da rang magic in Saadi galli – the resonant and guitar’y Original, the funky Unplugged and the mighty catchy Remix – are all eminently listenable, with Neeti Mohan joining Ayushmann in the vocals! Rashid Khan’s Sapna mera gains tremendously from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s vocals to get past the generic, modern-day pathos template that pulls it a bit down. The soundtrack shifts to a different gear with Mikey McCleary unleashing his sound! His remixes of Tezaab’s So gaya, with wicked surf guitar, and Beta’s Dhak dhak, with absolutely kick-ass vocals by Saba Azad pulling a Suman Sridhar, are top-notch. Mike’s original songs too are fantastic – the sweeping vaudevillian sound in Ayushmann-sung Tu hi tu is wonderfully dreamy, while Indian X Factor winner Geet Sagar is superb in the reggae’ish Draamebaaz! In Dil ki, Mikey gets Saba to recreate his Bartender sound, with fabulous results, yet again! Nautanki Saala is a solid and fully loaded soundtrack, in variety and imagination!

Tu Hi Tu is an awesome song…loved it.
Dhak Dhak Karne laaga is creepy and yet lovable!
