Kida Poosari Magudi (Music review), Tamil – Ilayaraja

Nee aattukkutty and Oru kaalathula have all the standard tropes of an Ilayaraja song, but no matter how much the backgrounds try, the tunes are incredibly outdated. But despite Prasanna’s rather flat singing, Muthu muthu at least has a lively sound to keep in reasonably good stead. The man gets his act together in Chinna paya vayasu and Manikkuyilu satham – the former evoking memories of Oru Kaidhiyin Diary’s Pon maane (Shivaranjani base?) and the latter just offering more pleasant reminiscence overall, both backed by the now-familiar, likeable and sweeping orchestration of Raja. Nostalgia rescues Ilayaraja again, but only occasionally.
