Four of Yuvan Shankar Raja’s tried and tested tunes from the Telugu hit, Adavari Matalaku Ardhale Verule make the cut in this soundtrack. Nee chumu and Mandaara with Rajesh Krishnan, sounding very much like Mano and SPB are expectedly neat. Hey baby continues to annoy while Minugu fails due to Gurukiran and Apoorva’s rendition. But composer Gurukiran swoops up the soundtrack right under Yuvan’s nose with the lively Modala - Kunal Ganjawala impresses with his effortless singing. Gurukiran’s other track, the forlorn Antu intu too is notable! This dual composer soundtrack has at least 4 good tracks going for it!

Athmiya (Kannada, Manoj George)

The choice of Shankar Mahadevan for the very peppy Aa bili bili is bang on - this is one rocking track with a lot of variations and some cool 80s, ABBA style backgrounds. Blaze’s punchy Hedarade bedarade is equally catchy, even though a tad repetitive! Chinmayee’s Maleye maleye is beautiful, with a generously Rahman-styled tune and the singer doing a delightful job. Aralisu’s opening sax takes the Rahman sound further but this mellifluous Rajesh Krishnan-Chinmayee duet is perhaps the most Karnataka-friendly tune amongst the four tracks. Manoj George’s (is he the now-disbanded Antaragni’s violinist?) tunes makes for very pleasant listening!

Note 1: I believe the movie is out and flopped - very recently. The only reason why I still gave this soundtrack a listen is because of the composer’s name. Is this the same Manoj George of Antaragni fame?

Psycho (Kannada, Raghu Dixit)

Eno ide is very Euphoria’ish – but this haunting, doleful track has markedly ambient and interesting backgrounds, akin to Rahman’s! Mussanje rangalli is Saindavi’s show, she’s in amazing form as she traverses through the classical-tinged tune. Ninna poojege is the soundtrack’s highlight - Raghu and Haricharan share honors in this catchy, lively and high-pitched track! The Haricharan – Saindavi duet, Beladingalante minuguta and Raghu’s own Preetiya manashantiya are honey-soaked melodies that impress almost instantly while Ee tanuvu ninnade’s rock-styled arrangements and Raghu’s singing are fabulous. Raghu Dixit cooks up a heady mix in his Kannada film debut – varied, thoughtful and thoroughly enjoyable!

Accident (Kannada - Ricky Kej)

Baa maleye resonates beautifully with BR Lakshman Rao’s lyrics, ambient music and Sonu’s fantastic vocals. Ninade ninade (and its Chaitra-sung version, Preethi moodo) is a lot more methodical, much like the techno-infused Jigidu banthu, which is no doubt catchy with all the right sounds thrown in, but lacks any notable punch. The ode to dosti, Friendship andre is in a good sing-along’ish mode with striking chorus and backgrounds - the chorus working equally well, along with a sweet tune in the Sonu - Mahalakshmi Iyer duet, Dheem dheem. Ricky’s Kannada debut is impressive, barring the lack of any native sounds.

Aramane (Kannada - Gurukiran)

The sufi mix in Kolle is not bad at all - Guru carries the song well on his vocals, while Nanagu is a standard melody, heavily dependent on Kunal’s voice. Nagu nagu has a nursery rhyme-like structure and is easy on the ears – Rajesh Krishnan working his vocal magic on the track with Ganesh in different avatars! Nanna yedeyalli is run-of-the-mill pathos and Uphee too is plain mundane. Patra bareyala is the album’s highlight - soft sing-along ballad and excellent singing by Karthik. Aramane’s music is a far cry from the kind of music one expects from a Ganesh starrer.
