Badtameez dil is heady and addictive; Benny rocks with his vocals! Balam pichkari too… foot-tapping holi song with superb singing by Vishal and Shalmali. Ilahi’s guitar-driven sound and children’s chorus is endearing; so are the two versions by Arijit and Mohit, but the tune is oddly unmoving. Ditto with Kabira; two versions and four singers, [...]

Pritam re-use of a part of Bally Sagoo’s Gud naal ishq mitha is competent – heady Punjabi’ness; Tochi’s version trumps Sukhwinder’s, incidentally! Aao na is more energetic than the usual Pritam melody – good listen, barring Tulsi Kumar. She’s intrudes in Halki halki too, where Shaan tries hard to salvage the predictable goodness-all-around tune. Falak [...]

Roxen’s Mustafa Zahid offers an extended version of the band’s own acoustic hit, Kaisay jiyein, in Hum jee lenge – largely predictable and staid Pakistani pop. Of the three songs by Pritam, Teri jhuki nazar, by Shafqat Amanat Ali, hardly raises above the familiar template. Ditto with Jaata hai tujh tak, sung by Nikhil Dsouza [...]

Race 2 (Music review), Hindi – Pritam

Party On My Mind and Lat lag layee are mighty competent techno tracks that hit all the right buttons with the tune and the rhythm; the latter, in particular, is bloody addictive, thanks to the fabulous vocals by Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgade. Atif Aslam is dependably good in Be intehaan, though the tune is [...]

Rush (Music review), Hindi – Pritam

Chup chup ke could well be composed in Pritam’s sleep – wonderfully pleasant, but incredibly predictable… every part of the song! Mumkin nahin too is Pritam-sleep material – catchy melody with Tulsi Kumar’s awkward vocals layered over Anupam Amod’s impressive one! Fukraa and Hote hote‘s Punju-fused music is passably catchy, though nothing quite new. Adnan [...]

Cocktail (Music review), Hindi – Pritam

Everything just works seamlessly in Tumhi ho bandhu – Kavita Seth’s vocals, Neeraj Shridhar’s super enthu hook and Pritam high-energy music… everything! Shalmali Kholgade, fresh from her Pareshaan high, rocks Daru desi, along with Benny Dayal – a spirited, groovy song in true Pritam style. Yaariyaan‘s rock version, with Mohan ‘Agnee’ Kannan and Shilpa Rao, [...]

Maare re is noisy, but works well as something loud and jolly at the stadium. Urmila Dhangar’s Marathi mix in Mala jau de is wonderfully orchestrated; Pritam chooses his sounds very well to accentuate the fun element. The kids chorus in Ae mere mann is a beautiful highlight, while Shyamantan Das confidently leads the vocals. [...]

Jannat 2 (Music review), Hindi – Pritam

Shafqat and Rahat’s Tu hi mera and Tera deedar hua, respectively, are like songs usually assigned to them – lilting sufi’ish sounds, but not clutter-breaking. KK is extraordinary in the dreamy tune Tujhe sochta hoon, but Nikhil D’Souza mauls its other version. Rab ka shukrana too is a wonderful tune, brilliantly composed by Pritam and [...]

Agent Vinod (Music review), Hindi – Pritam

The officially credited Rasputin homage, I Will Do The Talking Tonight, is surprisingly effective – a pulsating, catchy track that makes whimsical use of the original’s hooks! Pungi is quirky fun; funky vocals led by Mika, and an addictive, foot-tapping sound/genre strongly reminiscent of Viju Shah’s Aar Yaa Paar number, Tamma Tamma Ele! Pritam seldom [...]

Players (Music review), Hindi – Pritam Chakraborty

Jis jagah pe khatam is one of those few songs where the chorus vocals completely rule over the main tune; understated, but immensely catchy. Jhoom jhoom‘s ambitious backgrounds actually hold a fairly retro-styled tune – engagingly sung by Ritu Pathak; as are Siddharth Basrur and Arijit Singh’s techno variants! Yashita Yashpal confidently rocks the templatized, [...]
