Wajid does a surprisingly good job in singing the bubbly Mukhtasar that, for some inexplicable reason, sounds a lot like London Paris New York’s title song! Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Allah jaane is predictable, but is wonderfully serene and pleasant! Jabse mere dil ko‘s guitar and retro outlook is very appealing, as is Sonu and [...]

Mausam (Music review), Hindi – Pritam

Karsan Sargathia’s earthy vocals and the orchestration’s manic energy sees Aag lage us aag ko through easily, while Hans Raj Hans, Shahid Mallya and Wadali Brothers rise above the predictably likeable and mellow Ik tu hi to hi, across three versions. Mallo malli is punchy, catchy Pritam’ish masala. Rashid Khan’s Poore se zara hams up [...]

Kuch to baaki hai, apparently, has Himesh’s pre-contortion vocals, which was mildly more tolerable – this is a fairly enjoyable tune! The title song is entirely stale and outdated, while Tum chain ho seems like a reworking of some classic number and is saved only due to Sonu’s heartfelt singing; Vineet Singh’s unplugged version sounds [...]

Ayaashi is racy and definitely catchy; if only it did not spell it out in the name of a chorus…! The title song has Benny Dayal crooning a flat tune embellished occasionally with intriguing reggaeton-style backgrounds, while Krishna gets a neat, foot-tapping package in Chaska – rhythmic and addictive! Pritam reserves the best for Rahat [...]

Aye khuda is breezy, like a beautiful indipop number and Salim Merchant does his usual brilliant job with the vocals. Vishal Dadlani brings his own attitude in the spunky title song, while Bekarar is typical Lucky Ali material – thoroughly hummable. Mujhe teri starts off in Tulsi Kumar’s pop album style (co-composed by Vijay Lama), [...]

Pe pe pepein is frivolously noisy and is something Pritam composes in his sleep, while Pump it up is something that is meant to support Shahid’s steps than delight listeners. Things turn better with Pal mein hi, though not so much, since its strictly a middling and predictable melody. One more chance and Just do [...]

Naan mozhi arindhen tops the bad-singer-choice list, with Suresh Wadkar irritatingly laboring in Tamil, spoiling a respectable tune. Udit is next, massacring Venpanju – another tune that could have been better with just Karthik singing it, while Hariharan’s Suthudhu is just too standard a tune. Kaatru Pudhidhaai is considerably better, barring the Aao milo chalen [...]

With a name like that, it is natural to expect hardcore Punjabi tracks – and Hard Kaur does rap in the wholly trite Bhangra bistar! The title song is equally routine, but Mika’s enthusiasm and the catchy hook make up for the monotony. Discowale khisko is the track where things take a rude, headachy turn [...]

The surf guitar-loaded DhanTeNan is no doubt reminiscent of Dick Dale’s legendary track, Misirlou (more popularly referred to as the theme from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction), but beyond broad, genre-influences, it stands on its own, as a hyper-enthusiastic dance track, with infectious vocals by Sukhwinder Singh! Fatak plays along predictably, but only till the guitar [...]

Neeraj Shridhar’s buoyant vocals, rapper Indee’s (surprisingly credited!) bloody catchy hook and Pritam’s overall arrangements make Aai paapi (Tu hai meri soniye) absolutely scintillating. This is one heck of an exuberant track! Bakhuda tumhi ho too works big time – Atif’s magical vocals at work beautifully here, along with Alka Yagnik’s, besides the soulful tune [...]
