Enadhu uyire, despite all the superfluous sweetness, is actually quite ordinary, much like the seemingly catchy Hawai theevil, that sounds like a 90s track badly inspired by some Harry Belafonte number. [...]

Saindhavi sounds great in the otherwise weirdly paced and rhythmed En paadal while SPB tries to hold the dated melodies in Thanthathil seitha and Vaikarai paniye - the latter is considerably better. Vizhiyil is more like it - a well-orchestrated duet with elaborate violin pieces expected from Vidyasagar, much like the unconventional, up-tempo Karthik number, [...]

Music review: Abhiyum Naanum (Tamil - Vidyasagar)

Azhagiya kili plays with pathos in a mockingly grand set-up and just sounds weird! Vaa vaa is a Sivaji-styled melody with Madhu Balakrishnan’s vocals that gathers steam mid-way, elegantly - another bit song, Moongil vittu, uses only this portion, interestingly! Ore oru flows like a story book but is just functional, with atrocious pronunciation by [...]

Enna pulla opens the soundtrack with honest, pathos-laden vocals by Vidyasagar, while Tippu does the same in Vanathai vittu, amidst innovative backgrounds and absorbing interludes. DJ DJ doesn’t fit the [...]

Hara hara sambo has a rather likeable rhythm but a strictly average tune made lively by Jassie Gift’s enthusiastic vocals. Krishna krishna and Nenjil aathaadi are plain annoying signifying the composer’s early, massy and mundane compositions. Even Neenda mounam and Pudhiya paravai ondru are strongly reminiscent of Vidyasagar’s late 90s melodies, shorn of the mature [...]

Given the starkly folk influence in the film’s theme, it’s no surprise to hear Vidyasagar dipping into traditional villupaattu-like tunes for Kattipudikkum karadiya and Kodaangi vandhirukken. Both are steeped in extremely familiar folk tunes, but with utterly disjoint structures. But Potta kuruviyo is vintage Vidyasagar with a lovely melody wrapped in a pleasing, mod orchestration. [...]
